"We’ve taken your comments to heart; please send money"
I finally received a response from David Strand, although it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for:
Dear Friend in Christ:
I want to sincerely thank you for your e-mail message regarding the discontinuation of the “Issues, Etc.” program on KFUO-AM Radio. It is good that you are interested in the programming choices of the station. Please know that your comments have been heard and taken to heart.
Some people receiving this message have written before in some fashion on this topic and, sometime ago, received a different response. Others are receiving this message in response to original queries or comments they raised.
In any event, whether you have written one or two or more times, and no matter which “Issues”-related point or points you may have raised, the best and most comprehensive response I can offer at this time is to refer you to a statement on the Synod’s website.
If you haven’t already read this statement, I respectfully invite you to go to www.lcms.org and click on the link called “An updated statement on ‘Issues, Etc.’ ”
I invite you also to listen to “The Afternoon Show” on KFUO-AM, weekdays from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Now and into the future, it will be the constant endeavor of KFUO-AM management to offer the best in Gospel-based programming throughout the day—programming that reaches out to Lutherans, other Christians, and the unchurched, and all within a budget we can hope to sustain.
Please continue to keep the radio ministry of the Synod in your prayers. Please also prayerfully consider what you might do, if so inclined, to support this important work.

I got one too.
I almost have pity for the man. Short of announcing the reinstatement of the show or going anonymous on a blog and debriefing us of all the stuff that has been going on, he’s not going to make anybody happy.
These words seem empty to me. This is just my first impression. Perhaps I am tainted by the evidence which indicates that our beloved synod is being driven by politics. Still, the letter seems as if it were meant to silence dissenting opinions without addressing any of the questions raised. It is most likely my sinful nature which does not want me to trust that this letter is written to sincerely address the problems being addressed. Yet, have we been given any evidence to think otherwise?

Richard, you are quite right to be concerned about how our old Adam will use our anger against us. Every evidence at this point, however, indicates that they are ignoring our complaints. And we must remember what we are complaining about: not merely the loss of a program, but the firing of two servants who had done nothing wrong – and that firing being justified by apparently fraudulent accounting. Something is deeply amiss there, and for me, this email only makes it worse.
I completely agree with you. Even the worst possible explanation (in my opinion that would be that these men were fired for political reasons) would be better than silence. Silence allows our minds to wander about what may have been the case, rather than addressing what is the case.
Truth comes to the light. Error flees from the light, crouching in secrecy.
